 Duties

· Execute mechanical design of rotating equipment and drive assemblies for both diaphragm and reciprocating compressors including hand calculations, CAD, and FEA.

· Lead, prepare, and review various engineering deliverables (drawings & documents) utilizing standard GD&T practices.

· Knowledge of reciprocating compressor components such as valves, packing, piston & rod assemblies, cylinders, liners, crossheads, cylinder heads, crankshafts, and auxiliary systems.

· Analyze technical information and make decisions involving complex problems where information may be incomplete.

· Develop QA/QC standards for rotating equipment manufacturing and repair.

· Develop life cycle costs for rotating equipment repairs and replacement.

· Ensure conformance with continuous improvement initiatives, standard operating practices, business controls as well as compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required. Master of Engineering or Professional Engineering preferred.

· 10+ years energy engineering work experience specifically in rotating equipment design and manufacturing required.   · Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software

· Knowledge of design standards for rotating and reciprocating compressors including API 618

· Practical with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to display and exercise sound judgment.

· Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.

Junior Software Engineer

Luminar - Lidar Algorithm Development Engineer

Job Description 


Seeking an experienced software algorithm development engineer to solve next-generation challenges in LiDAR sensing for the autonomous automotive market. You will be working with a team of LiDAR data scientists and signal processing engineers to develop algorithms for producing world-class automotive LiDAR point clouds. Candidates must have strong software and algorithm development skills, with a solid understanding of embedded development and associated real-time performance and memory constraints. Relevant background experience for candidates includes computer vision, image processing, robotics or experience with point cloud processing/analysis and associated algorithms. Familiarity with standard software development processes, configuration management, and source control tools, such as Git, will be critical.


Responsibilities

  • Implement and/or develop LiDAR and point cloud algorithms for a state-of-the-art LiDAR to support L4/L5 autonomous driving
  • Prototype algorithms in MATLAB and/or Python
  • Perform iterative algorithm optimization for point cloud performance as well as spatial, computational complexity while using software engineering best-practices
  • Work closely with embedded systems team to transfer implementation of algorithms to embedded processors or FPGAs/ASICs
  • Analyze and process 3D point cloud data, which includes not only basic tasks such as extracting regions of interest, extracting targets in the scene based upon features, and performing plane fitting but more advanced tasks such as applying nearest neighbor algorithms, applying thresholding techniques, computing normals, applying iterative closest point algorithms, and performing basic segmentation
  • Working with LiDAR and gaining an understanding of LiDAR performance, design, phenomenology to assist in design and implementation of algorithms
  • Develop algorithms and code in adherence to ASPICE; FuSA (functional safety)
  • Communicate system performance and complex algorithm concepts to both internal and external customers


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering with 5+ years of work experience
  • Knowledgeable in computer architecture, multi-threaded/multi-core programming, embedded architecture
  • Knowledgeable in topics such as linear algebra, statistics, and signal processing concepts
  • Proficient working with MATLAB or Python and must have C++ experience
  • Experience with systematic, iterative development of algorithms to meet key performance requirements
  • Possesses strong analytical skills and able to work independently to solve complex, challenging problems
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering and/or Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience in developing signal processing and/or point cloud algorithms for LiDAR
  • Experience working with an embedded systems team to implement and validate algorithms on a real-time platform
  • Working knowledge of various computing architectures, such as FPGAs, DSPs, GPUs, or MCUs
  • Familiarity with point cloud processing algorithms and experience working with associated tools and libraries
  • Experience or knowledge in the area of robotics, computer vision, image processing and statistical inference
  • basic understanding of laser optics and LiDAR systems and familiarity with point cloud algorithms
  • Knowledge of full lifecycle processes in safety-critical industries such as automotive, medical, or military with a particular interest in first-hand ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), and Automotive SPICE experience

This work will impact multiple CertainTeed gypsum plants through the development of new sensor technologies, and will enable the candidate to gain experience with designing and implementing new processes.


Responsibilities:

  • Supports sensor and data projects driven by the needs of the CertainTeed Gypsum business including:
    • Selection and technical evaluation of relevant technologies.
    • Development of functional prototypes and field evaluation.
    • Design iterations following feedback from internal or external customers.
    • Development of final solution and transfer of technology to the plant teams.
  • Participates in the identification of the gypsum business needs and the establishment of projects with gypsum plants. Vision to see how their projects effects the entire system.
  • Participates in the identification and evaluation of potential external partners such as integrators, software developers, sensor/electronic/mechanical systems manufacturers, and engineering consulting companies.
  • Manages projects from technical concept to operational handoff through close cross functional teamwork.
  • Summarizes project approaches and results in concise and accurate technical memos/reports.
  • Communicates project strategies and results to internal customers and management through formal presentations.
  • Conducts research and development process improvements related to the production of Gypsum Wall Board
  • Conducting meetings with internal customers to identify data analytics needs and scope projects including big data projects and production deployments.
  • Collaborating with central IT services and/or external vendors to ensure successful and sustainable developments.
  • Being an active member of Saint-Gobain worldwide data analytics community, through participation in tech days and sharing of best practices.
  • Develops and encourages innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) development and fosters IP development through the patent process with legal support.
  • Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s with 3+ years’ experience or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, or related fields
  • Must be proficient with electronics and automation systems (including motion control).
  • Must have hands-on experience with building testing rigs, measurement systems, and electromechanical systems.
  • Must have experience with sensors and non-destructive evaluation techniques.
  • Must have experience with C/C++/C# or Python and LabVIEW
  • Ability to design, spec, integrate, program, test, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems (PLCs, HMI’s, cabinet hardware, VFD’s, starters, I/O, ladder logic).
  • Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting functional prototypes of mechatronic systems incorporating compute, sensing, and actuation.
  • Experience with the development of systems reliant on DIY electronics (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar) and familiarity with other microcontroller systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.
  • Proven ability to execute experimental tests with minimal supervision and a focus on paying attention to details.
  • Proven ability to think critically, strategize and organize tasks autonomously on assigned projects, and establish viable technical paths forward.
  • Proven ability to iterate quickly on projects and redefine path forward as relevant.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of management, customers, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Respectful communication and ability to collaborate in a team environment required.
  • Familiarity with industrial systems and IoT/IIoT knowledge is a plus.
  • Previous project management and manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated good knowledge in HSE and IP.

Dorado - AUV Operations Engineer

Job Information


The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is recruiting for two technical positions in its autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) group. Reporting to the AUV Supervisor, the incumbents ensure that MBARI’s oceanographic equipment (primarily autonomous underwater vehicles) operate efficiently, effectively, and reliably. The incumbents assist in the design, development, testing, and at-sea operation of MBARI’s fleet of Dorado autonomous underwater vehicles and associated scientific payloads. Primary technical responsibilities for both positions include design and development of custom mechanical and embedded systems (both hardware and software) for actuation, data acquisition, control, and energy storage. The incumbents are also responsible for the safe at-sea operation of autonomous vehicles, both locally in the Monterey Bay as well as on research expeditions. 


Mechanical Position:

Duties involve the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment as assigned. This includes integration of new instrumentation into vehicles, sustaining engineering on existing vehicle platforms, research cruise planning and preparation, mobilization, and at-sea operations. Areas of technical responsibility include design and integration of electrical hardware and mechanical assemblies, shipboard operations planning, and expedition planning and logistics (including export control processes). In addition, the incumbent will participate in vehicle launch and recovery and other associated on-deck work as needed.

An Associate’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in oceanographic instrumentation or a related field is required. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: mechanical design (using Solidworks or other CAD software) and fabrication (manual, CNC and additive fabrication, welding). Experience in the development, integration, and operation of bio-acoustic and/or geophysical sonar systems is highly desired. Previous at-sea experience in the launch and recovery of oceanographic systems is also desired.


Software Position:

Incumbent undertakes a variety of support work in the planning, design, and fabrication of autonomous underwater vehicles, and has primary responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as assigned. Incumbent is responsible for the implementation of custom Linux kernels and high level robotic control applications for onboard computers, as well as developing custom microcontroller firmware for various subsystems. Typical applications require custom communications protocols using TCP/UDP, as well as CAN and other serial interfaces (I2C, RS232, SPI, etc). Responsibilities also include integration of new instrumentation and advanced software algorithms into vehicles, as well as provides engineering on existing vehicle platforms, provides research cruise planning and preparation, mobilization and at-sea operations.


A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, plus relevant experience in embedded systems development or related field is required. Must be able to appropriately scale and apply formal and informal engineering methodologies. Experience designing microprocessor-based systems for robotic control applications, as well as a demonstrated skill in implementing embedded hardware and software for high-reliability, low power systems, is required. Experience in developing custom Linux distributions using Yocto or similar build systems is required. Experience using high level control frameworks such as Robot Operating System (ROS) or similar is highly desired. Experience in developing microcontroller applications on ARM Cortex-M3 or similar processors is highly desired.


Both positions require the willingness and ability to go to sea and work offshore for up to two months at a time, up to 150 days per year. The position requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Must be able to work well as part of a team, independently and with diverse groups of people.  Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.

National Girls Collaborative - Marketing and Partnerships Manager

Position Description


The Marketing and Partnerships Manager will support our ongoing STEM and equity projects

with community and educational partners. This position will lead outreach, partnership, and

marketing of the IF/THEN Collection to NGC’s community. The Collection is the largest free

resource of its kind dedicated to increasing access to authentic and relatable images of real

women in STEM. Our ideal candidate has excellent relationship-building and marketing skills,

with experience cultivating and supporting partnerships.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engage NGC community and STEM organizations to use the IF/THEN Collection and its assets in their programs and activities.
  • Lead the development of outreach plans and supporting partnership materials.
  • Manage outreach campaigns and other targeted partnership efforts.
  • Create joint marketing plans with NGC community and educational partners.
  • Coordinate grant program and evaluation with NGC state collaboratives.

Required Qualifications

Compensation

This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week. Compensation is annual salary range of $55,000-

$65,000, contingent upon experience, education, and skills. Benefits are included.
